Set within the attractive conservation village of Elsecar, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a unique family attraction and a working hub of industry. With a nearby park, canal-side walks and access to the Trans Pennine Trail, Elsecar Heritage Centre is a fascinating day out for all the family.

Visitors to Elsecar Heritage Centre will find an interesting variety of individual craft workshops, artist studios, antique centres and exhibitions alongside a children’s indoor play centre, cafe and a historical steam railway. The restored ironworks and colliery workshops are also home to Elsecar Visitor Centre which houses a small exhibition about Elsecar’s past.

Elsecar Heritage Railway is located towards the rear of the Centre. The Railway currently operates a passenger service that runs between Rockingham Station at the Elsecar Heritage Centre, through some extremely historic and scenic countryside alongside the Dearne and Dove Canal, to the present terminus next to the canal basin at Hemingfield.

The Sunday passenger service trains, which are open to the general public, are hauled by Heritage Steam and Diesel locomotives, operated and restored entirely by volunteers.

A full programme of special events takes place throughout the year, and businesses in the Centre regularly run craft workshops. A monthly antiques and collectables fair is held in Building 21 on the 2nd Sunday of every month.
