Shop local and enjoy a very ‘Appy Independents Day in Barnsley

Barnsley Council is inviting people to support local businesses and #ShopIndieBarnsley starting with the town’s very own ‘Independents Day’ on Tuesday 4 July. A day of special activity in the town centre will mark the launch of Independent Retailer Month and the arrival of ShopAppy in Barnsley –a digital social-enterprise that allows customers to browse and buy local products online.

Throughout the day, shoppers in the town centre will be treated to freebies, special offers and street entertainment as they visit Barnsley’s fantastic range of independent businesses including traditional market stalls, cafés and restaurants, designer boutiques, and specialist shops. The first 50 people to pledge to #ShopIndieBarnsley will also receive a voucher for a £5 discount on their first ShopAppy purchase.

Located at various locations in the town centre from the recently revamped Victorian Arcade, to the trendy George Square and various traditional markets, the independent retailers offer a unique shopping experience with a wide range of products and services.

Throughout Independent Retailer Month, shoppers will be able to enjoy special offers and discounts that will be shared around the town centre and on social media. People are also being encouraged to take part in a photo selfie competition sponsored by Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.

Full details and more information can be found on the council’s Facebook page and by following the hashtags #ShopIndieBarnsley and #ShopAppy for the latest news and offers from all participating businesses.
