February Half Term 2018 - What's On?

Looking for things to do this February half term in Barnsley? Here's a selection of events that are happening in and around the area.  

LAMBING FESTIVAL

Cannon Hall Farm
Saturday 10th February - Sunday 25th February

Join us for lambing season - one of Cannon Hall Farm’s most exciting times in the farming calendar.

Our shepherds will be caring for 300 pregnant ewes who will all be having lambs over the two week holidays - and our farmers will be keeping everyone up to date with live Facebook broadcasts.

We want to share the action with your family - as well as provide education and entertainment for our younger visitors.

FAMILY CRAFT WEEK

Experience Barnsley
Monday 12th February - Friday 16th February

Drop into the learning lab and have a go at a range of mining related crafts linking with our new exhibition ‘Strata’. From making pit ponies to protest badges, get hands-on and have fun in our family drop in workshops. 11am - 2pm | Free, donations welcome.

THE FAIRIES OF FAIRYLAND

Cannon Hall
Tuesday 13th February

As part of the ‘Cracking Ceramics’ project, join Ceramist Karen Thompson and help dress Fairyland in Cannon Hall’s grounds with a temporary display of ceramic fairies, fairy houses and wonderful ceramic objects that bring to life the magic of this enchanting hideaway.

Using air dry clay, Karen will show you how to model, sculpt and decorate your creations, which after the photo shoot in Fairyland will be yours to take home.

Workshops take place in the museum itself and will include messy clay play so please dress accordingly.

Come and join the cook in the Victorian kitchen and make and decorate special Valentine biscuits to take home and enjoy with the people you love. Please bring a tin to take home all your goodies.

Come and join this family activity and make different-shaped bird feeders to hang in the garden or on a balcony. Children to be accompanied by an adult.

PROFESSOR PUMPERNICKEL'S CRAZY SCIENCE SHOW

Experience Barnsley
Saturday 17th February

Professor Pumpernickel travels the country with his laboratory of lunacy...His mission:- to enthuse all ages and abilities about science in hope of seeding some of our future inventors, explorers, life savers and superheroes.

Join us in The Learning Lab at Experience Barnsley Museum for an hour of bangs, wallops and lots of crashes when Professor Pumpernickel brings his crazy (and dare we say educational) science show to town.

CRACKING CERAMICS!

Saturday 24th February - Sunday 24th February 2019

Have you ever wondered what is hiding in the museum store rooms at Cannon Hall? This spring is your opportunity to find out with brand new displays of colourful, imaginative and skilful ceramics to enjoy.

Over the next two years, visitors will be invited to explore changing displays in our new Cracking Ceramics! project space at the museum. Our first displays opening in March will look at how potters have used animals to inspire their work. You can use the collections to draw your own artwork or join in our activity days to create a ceramic piece.
