Flavours Food Festival returns with a bang

The historic village of Elsecar in South Yorkshire is opening its doors to Flavours annual food festival this weekend, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October. Packed full of foodie fun, live music, family entertainment and a spectacular firework display, the weekend is a two-day celebration for all the senses.

South Yorkshire village could be England’s favourite conservation area

Elsecar, a small industrial village in the heart of South Yorkshire, has been shortlisted for the title ‘England's favourite conservation area'; one of only 18 to be selected from nearly 250 nominations across the country. The award, by national charity Civic Voice, aims to showcase the UK's best-loved historic places and the local communities that help to make them so special.

Archives on Tour - Local government in Hoylandswaine

Important historic records relating to the former Hoylandswaine Urban District Council have been carefully sorted, preserved and catalogued by Barnsley Archives and Local Studies team. The new records will be showcased for the very first time at a special event on Wednesday, 17 October.

Cannon Hall’s lakes transformed to former Georgian glory

Over the last year, Barnsley Museums have worked with contractor, Ebsford Environmental to carefully desilt the parks historical lakes, transforming them back to their Georgian splendour. Alongside the visual improvements, work was undertaken to improve the water quality to encourage more aquatic habitats and increase local biodiversity.

Buns on the run in Barnsley

Children and community groups in Barnsley will be given the opportunity to learn traditional baking skills this Autumn thanks to lottery funding. Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust has secured a £10,000 grant for Worsbrough Mill Museum & Country Park via the National Lottery’s Awards for All scheme to deliver the ‘Buns on the Run’ community project.

Michelin award-winning chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli, will be appearing at Elsecar’s annual Flavours Food Festival in South Yorkshire on Saturday 20 October 2018. Alongside holding a meet and greet with fans, Jean-Christophe will be cooking up a storm in two lively cookery demonstrations.
